Uruguay Country Summary

April 29th, 2007 | Print This Page

Route: (ferry from Buenos Aires to) Colonia - Montevideo - Punta del Este - Colonia (via Montevideo)

Total number of days - 4
**See below for breakdown

Budget:
Overall Average: $35 (oops)

Interesting Expenditures: $3 for a bottle of wine while watching the sunset

Food and Drink: Food in Uraguay was very similar to food in Buenos Aires. We tried our first Malonesa (breaded steak with cheese, ham, and tomatoes on top), which was pretty good.

Must Eats: Uruguayan wine did not disappoint. Pizza with blue cheese and olives. Yum.

Highlights:

  • Shutting down a casino.
  • Wandering the oddly deserted streets in Punta del Este.
  • Spending a day on the beautiful, sunny and abandoned beach in Punta Del Este.
  • Getting treated to dinner by Bon.
  • Eating a cheese plate in Colonia.
  • Drinking wine and watching the amazing sunsets.

Best Deal: $8 for a night in Punta del Este Hostel
