Highlights: Checking out the World Social Forum, getting attacked by monkeys, losing a fight with a matatu driver, accidentally staying in a brothel, watching the billions of stars pass by on the overnight train to Mombasa from Nairobi.

Best Deal: Diani Beachalettes – great little place in Diani (the only affordable one that’s not a brothel), with apartment style cabanas on the beach… complete with kitchens, living rooms, and porches.
